Carnatic music is not just about singing and performing.
It has a language of its own that seems to give linguists a run for their
money. “Musicalese” abounds in
terms and expressions that specialize in saying every thing other than
what is expressed. A few examples
of such expressions (with of course, the actual meaning alongside):
